That's right, i heard it from the horse's mouth! Well, indirectly. It goes like this, see?
I moved to Los Angeles about a month ago, and had been looking for a job for weeks, when this ad on craigslist comes up for a robot store, called Rolling Robots. I jumped at the opportunity, I applied, interviewed, got hired! (Awesome job, by the way, I'm building robots all the time, just like Steve Guttenberg!) So the owner was telling me about how busy they were over christmas, and that a lot of celebrities stopped in. He told me that one fellow who visited in particular, struck up a conversation with one of the employees about the upcoming Short Circuit remake. The employee said he doubted it would be any good, as remakes usually never are.
But the guy persisted, and said
"No, I think it's going to be pretty good. They got the original guy to come back and voice the robot again."
The employee said,
"How do you know?"
The customer responded,
"Because I'm the guy!"
The man proved it by performing Number Five's voice on the spot.
At this point, I interrupted my boss's story, because I was about ready to explode with excitement. "TIM BLANEY WAS HERE?!"
My boss laughed, and said, "I don't know the guy's name, but yeah, it was him."
So, there you have it. One one hand, I was ecstatic to find out that one of my great film heroes had been there. On the other hand, I was bummed that I'd missed him by mere few weeks.
Here's hoping he comes back!
